This safari takes you deep into the heart of Rwanda’s spectacular Nyungwe Forest National Park, one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests. Combining thrilling primate encounters, cultural experiences, breathtaking scenery, and unique forest adventures, the journey offers an immersive introduction to one of Rwanda’s most remarkable natural treasures. Along the way, enjoy a visit to the National Museum of Rwanda in Butare before continuing through the country’s picturesque hills and tea-growing regions to Nyungwe.

The adventure begins with chimpanzee trekking, where you’ll follow experienced guides through the dense rainforest in search of our closest relatives in the wild. Beyond the chimpanzees, Nyungwe is home to 13 species of primates, hundreds of bird species, and an incredible diversity of flora and fauna. Guests also have the opportunity to connect with local communities through tea harvesting experiences, tea factory visits, artisan workshops, and conservation presentations that provide deeper insight into the region’s culture and environmental stewardship.

A highlight of the safari is tracking the impressive Angolan colobus monkeys, known for gathering in some of the largest troops found anywhere in Africa. The journey is crowned by the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a thrilling suspended walkway high above the forest floor that offers breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy, wildlife, and surrounding mountains. Blending wildlife, culture, conservation, and adventure, this itinerary is perfect for travellers seeking a different side of East Africa, where pristine rainforest ecosystems and unforgettable primate encounters take center stage.
