Travel Requirements
Visitors traveling to Rwanda must possess a valid passport with at least six months’ validity beyond their intended stay. Rwanda offers one of the most visitor-friendly visa systems in Africa, with many nationalities eligible to obtain a visa upon arrival. Travelers may also apply for an electronic visa prior to departure through the official immigration portal. Citizens of several African countries enjoy visa-free entry, while regional travelers may benefit from the East Africa Tourist Visa, which allows travel between Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda using a single visa.
Travelers are advised to check the latest visa requirements before departure, as immigration policies may change periodically. It is also recommended to carry proof of accommodation, return or onward travel tickets, and evidence of sufficient funds to support the duration of the visit. Immigration officials may request these documents upon arrival.
A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers arriving from, or transiting through, countries with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission. While Rwanda is generally considered a healthy destination, visitors should consult their healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations and preventive measures. Depending on the regions being visited, malaria prevention medication may also be advisable.
Rwanda’s main international gateway is Kigali International Airport, located in the capital city of Kigali. The country boasts excellent road infrastructure and efficient transportation systems, making it easy to access major tourist attractions throughout the country.
